Twin Cities Arthritis Walk Has Westgate Connections

Written by Heather Norton-Bower, DVM.

Westgate Pet Clinic client, patient, and veterinarian have a connection to the Twin Cities Arthritis Foundation Walk taking place on September 29th. "Mr. Budd" James, owned by Donald James who volunteers for the Arthritis Foundation, is a 13 year old Golden Retriever that Dr. Norton-Bower regularly sees at Westgate Pet Clinic.

Mr. Budd began to show symptoms of arthritis two years ago when his owner noticed that he was having trouble jumping up on the bed. Donald mentioned this at an annual check-up visit and Mr. Budd was prescribed Rimadyl, one type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug approved for use in dogs.

Donald feels that this medication has made a huge difference in Mr. Budd's comfort and activity level the past year and a half; Mr. Budd is again able to jump up on the bed and moves around more in general like a much younger dog.

This year Mr. Budd was named Dog Honoree for the upcoming Arthritis Foundation Walk, which is open to both dogs and their owners (for participation details see our Local Events section). To sponsor Mr. Budd, please go to his webpage at Arthritis Walk 2007.

To see Mr. Budd, his owner Donald, and Dr. Norton-Bower discuss some ways we can improve the lives of dogs with arthritis, tune in on Friday, September 28th, to the KARE 11 TV Sunrise shows at 5:35 and 6:35am, or catch them later on the KARE 11 webcast. Special thanks to Rena Sarigianopoulos for doing this story!
